Shaping the Future of Digital Mental Health in India: A National Round Table Dialogue & Innovation Series

The ICMR–NIMHANS Centre for Advanced Research in Digital Interventions for Mental Healthcare organised a three-part National Round Table Dialogue & Innovation Series at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences. The event was attended by diverse stakeholders of digital mental health platforms, like mental health app-users, mental health service providers and app developers, who convened to reflect, and converse on digital mental health spaces.

Round Table Dialogue I – Mental Health Service Providers

The roundtable dialogue with mental health service providers focused on challenges and barriers faced by treatment-seeking clients as well as non-treatment seekers in terms of mental health; the various ways clients employ digital mental health platforms to deal with said barriers, as well as some of the ethical concerns that may be encountered on these platforms.

Round Table Dialogue II – Mental Health App Users

The second part of the roundtable series with mental health app end users focused on the factors influencing the increasing popularity of digital mental health platforms as well as the barriers of this usage. It also enumerated the incorporation of AI in digital mental health spaces, highlighting the ethical and practical considerations of such spaces.

Round Table Dialogue III – Mental Health App Developers

21 March 2026
The final part of the round table series inviting digital mental health start-ups and app developers focused on the producer perspectives of the digital mental health spectrum. The conversation revolved around the skewed distribution of mental health practitioners, accessibility gaps, and mental health literacy. It also highlighted some of the practical challenges that app developers face through the process of building digital mental health platforms.
